Junior Match Reports

It was a very early and cold start to what turned out to be a great morning of fun hockey. Despite the incorrect post code, thankfully the parents managed to deliver the girls on time albeit half asleep to the pitch. With the objective of getting the girls playing healthy competitive hockey it was agreed with Old Cranleighans we would play 4 games 10 minutes each way - 9-a-side...

On Sunday we fielded two balanced GU12 seven a-side teams from our ‘A’ squad against two Teddington teams, an opposition that are strong at this level, having won their regional U10 cup last year...

A follow up match from around 4 weeks ago, and you could tell the older Reeds' boys had been practicing! We struggled to get past them at the beginning and they had a few good attacks, which were nevertheless repulsed by the two Josephs at the back...

The U10 Tigers played on a warm afternoon against the 3 x Under 12 teams and the Under 10 Tigers and produced a fantastic set of results remaining unbeaten through the round robin competition...

2014-11-063a BU114-200The Under 14 Boys hosted three teams back to back to back on Sunday. The South League team got the better of East Grinstead as did the Premier League team v Old Loughts. And the hardest fought battle must have been the narrow loss by the Development League team...

The good weather we had enjoyed so far this season had to come to an end sometime.  Half an hour before the match, the heavens opened and it seemed like rowing might have been a more suitable activity than hockey.  Cecilia joked that we could stay in the clubhouse and take on Richmond at scrabble instead!  Nevertheless, the Guildford "zoo" of Gazelles, Eagles and Lions did indeed come out of the clubhouse and braved all the elements to take on 3 teams from Richmond.  For some, it was their first external match this season...

2014-10-19 HorshamCup 10-200The Under 14 boys started the defence of their EH Cup title in their first group stage match. Horsham play in the Mercian Development league and may not have been ready for the faster paced game that comes from opposition who play in the Premier league. They did well to battle but it was Guildford who came away with the goals...

2014-10-316 BU18-200The Under 18 boys hosted Canterbury in their first league match of the season. Given that the Canterbury boys would travel for more than twice as long as they would play hockey, we wanted to be sure we gave them a tough match...

Hot off the heels of their success on Saturday at Reed's School, the Under 10 Boys Panthers were back in action at Cheam on Sunday. From the luxury of a full half pitch on Saturday to the cramped space of a quarter pitch, the adjustment was a bit of a struggle...

2014-10-183a GU12-200The Under 12 Girls played an 11-a-side league match today against Maidenhead. After four quarters of 20 minutes each, the girls were still keen to play and finished off with some 7-a-side. More photos from the event here...
