Guildford Hockey Club Est. 1912

Junior Match Reports

The boys had done so well throughout the first part of the season, now was their first real serious challenge in the Premier League against 3rd place Phoenix Blue Hornet’s in a must-win encounter if we wanted to go on and win the league.

2014-12-07 GU12-200With their teammates on tour in Barcelona, it was a young team of predominantly U11 girls representing the club in an U12 tournament at Reading on Sunday...

The Guildford Zoo of Eagles, Lions and Gazelles took on 4 teams from Woking today at Broadwater. The hard work in training was evident as all Guildford teams came away with good results.

The girls turned up bright and early to play against Surbiton once again. They seem to have hundreds of teams and we are playing all of them! Spirits were high and the girls were determined to give 100% in order to win this game...

2014-12-07 BU10-200The team played their best games of the season so far and this was down to the fact that they played how we practiced on Friday night! I was very proud of all the boys as every one of them had a turn in different positions and did exactly what was needed.

2014-11-30 GU12Flames-200There is a consistent sense that this year our girls are very keen to play and we had more players than we would normally send to a match but given that willingness the coaches thought better to give all those who were available a chance.

2014-11-1040 GU12-200Guildford Shadows team were out in force on a glorious day against Oxford's girls. We had 16 players, more than we might normally take, but the girls this year are all keen to play so the coaches decided to give everyone who was available the chance to play. The build up had been that Oxford team would put out a weak team, however the opposite was true, and for the first 10 minute session both teams made piercing runs testing both goalkeepers and we knew we had to step up after a nervous start.

2014-11-1077 BU14-200After a couple of weeks of playing in the Cup, the boys were back competing in the Premier League against a side who generally provide them with some stiff competition...

Surbiton came to visit which gave both clubs' boys a chance for some good match experience. A great afternoon of hockey on the sand based pitch - and no rain and no need to soak the whites tonight which was a bonus...

There were excellent performances from all three Guildford teams at this SEMH tournament involving Camberley, Wimbledon and Horsham.  Despite persistent heavy rain, the girls were not put off and can be proud of some great results.  Read on....
