Junior Match Reports

A very tough match, played at a very high tempo, Guildford took an early lead...

A good game is where you stretch yourself and learn, and this was such a game. We played the strongest side of the season so far, with the majority of the opposition side year 8 & 9, against our side with over 40% of our side year 6 and 2 new debutants, the Bowen's...

The first game of the U16B campaign seems to have been a long time in coming. Prior to the match the girls looked relaxed…perhaps too relaxed. My stirring pre-match team talk went into great detail on team structure, the free-flowing style of play we were looking to play and the need to win at all costs…the girls yawned. Perhaps I should just chill out...

24 hours after the Reed's Saturday tournament, parents had the pleasure of driving 2 further stops up the A3 for the Mavericks game against Old Kingstonians. This was going to a hard game, with some of the older players away, we had the chance to see 3-4 more boys try the game on a full pitch and against older boys from the U14 Mercian league in 11-a-side hockey...

20151011GU10-200We had a successful first tournament against Sunbury & Walton and Old Cranleighans with the 'Meerkats' (read the report to understand the name) winning 3 and drawing 1 game against the other clubs' A sides. Good experience, good results and really good fun were also had by our other two mixed ability teams, with several players playing in their first ever tournament...

Guildford were kindly invited back to Reeds  School for a 4 way early season tournament. The operation was 2 private schools, Reeds and Merchant Taylor’s (MTS), ourselves and local rivals Woking. With the games being on a Saturday morning a number of boys had existing commitments, which gave more boys the chance to play and it was a great chance to put in to practice our Friday night training.

A great start to the EH Cup campaign with a 3-0 win over Bournemouth, to go with the impressive 5-1 win over Oxford in the league competition on the 18th September.  GU16 unbeaten in all competitions! Ok maybe a bit early for those headlines…yet...

20151004GU14IcevSpencer-200This was Guildford Ice's second league game of the season. Could it match last weeks cracking game that ended with a last minute draw? We were about to find out at 1.30pm on a fine autumn sunny day...

The Shadows fielded a mixed team of GU14 and some strong GU12 players against a Reading development side. We had a quite an imbalance in the side with 2 defenders and 12 attackers and, as a result, had to field several players out of their natural position...

20151004GU14SmokevEpsom-200Under 14 Girls 'Smoke' travelled to Epsom on a beautiful morning.  We were uncertain of our opposition and the usual questions rained in about the quality of the team. It turns out the teams were very well matched...
