It was going to be a testing tournament, with the boys reverting to 7 a-side against the best teams from the South region. Surbiton used to host the Tony Smith Tournament in May but decided this year to try moving it to December, making it effectively a continuation of the Teddington Christmas Invitational held for U12s every season on the Sunday before Christmas. It is a similarly well organised tournament and a good test of our hockey (and a nice way to avoid Christmas shopping!)... | ||

After an excellent trip to Barcelona the u14 boys returned to earth for an essential league game at Fareham, the leaders in the U14 Prem League and unbeaten this season. A massive game for the squad if we want to have any chance of qualifying for the finals day... | ||

A balanced and end-to-end game against Old Georgians saw the B’s narrowly lose 2-1, but our heads should be held high: a big improvement in the second half could have resulted in many more goals, and we were caught on the break pushing high for the second, and winning, goal... | ||

Playing a match the day after the Christmas party in the knowledge that half the team had been there either working or celebrating was not necessarily the best preparation for our second league game of the season! However, we went out against Maidenhead and won 7-1... | ||

Under 14 Boys had two close league matches this weekend against Sunbury & Walton and Sevenoaks, who are new to the Mercian league this season. Some excellent play and some lessons learned... | ||

This was quite an inexperienced side but they acquitted themselves wonderfully and showed that some of the girls who started hockey this season have made great progress under Maggs' Friday evening coaching... | ||
