Junior Match Reports

The first thing we needed to do was decide on a team name. A number of suggestions were made including something to do with pink fluffy elephants (I think!), but we settled on the 'maroon magicians'. With a bit of practise we were then ready to work our magic! And so our Surrey Plate Adventure began for our Maroon Magicians...

The Under 14 Boys had their final weekly training session for the season followed by a wrap-up of the season and some end of season awards...

20160318Under8sFinalSession-200It's great to have so many people in the junior section ensuring our kids get the best possible training we can give them so they gain a love of the sport.  The Under 8s are one of the biggest age groups in the club now with more than 70 boys and girls now making up the squad...

Guildford Juniors attend more than forty different schools. Some of them play hockey and some don't. GHC players make a big difference on their school teams for those who do play at school...

20160317GU18vEpsom2-200The Under 18 girls had a midweek game against Epsom at Therfield School. This was a rescheduled game and we took a squad of 14 for the game. We started the game well, lots of enthusiasm from the whole team (or maybe it was the fact it was only just above freezing point adn we were trying to keep warm?)...

20160313-GU12Plate4-200Blessed with some warm sunshine instead of the chilly wind and rain to which we have become accustomed, a bag full of Harribos and a sense of real determination right from the start, the Guildford Flames did themselves proud. They scored 18 goals and conceded just one and played some of their best hockey of the season...

20160306-U8sWithRichmond-200The Under 8s have had more festivals this season than ever before. Huge appreciation for James Relph's commitment and leadership throughout the season (despite his daughter having graduated to the U10s). Tens of people have helped out this season including many parents and Duke of Edinburgh volunteers and also Rohanna Ross (who is neither!). The girls and boys have enjoyed it and learned some terrific basic hockey skills...

20160306-GU13Sevenoaks-200Sevenoaks kindly organised a 7-a-side tournament for Under 13 Girls. Guildford took two teams on the day. The A's lost in the Final on flicks in their half of the tournament and the B's were the best B team there...

20160228-147-200The Under 16 Boys had three knock-out events today: Regional play-offs for the England Hockey National Championships and two Mercian League Finals Day Round 2 Play-offs. This was our squad having to play five different clubs' A teams from across the Region and Mercian League all on the same day. A very tall order...

20160228BU10CupTeam-200The boys played amazingly through out the tournament and worked really well as a team together supporting each other through the matches.  The team played well as a unit with very strong attacking and midfield players, defenders who worked well together not allowing many attackers through, and even Fynn our goalie had some action and saved some great shots from the opposition...
