20160501-764a-200The Mercian Home Counties Colts League provides hockey for 172 teams across 3 boys' age groups (U14, 16 18). In the Under 16 age group, 60 teams competed in different levels of competition. GHC U16 Boys competed in all four levels: Premier, Regional, Regional+ and Challenge. GHC U16 Boys came top of the Premier League table thus qualifying for Finals Day which pits the top two Prem teams with top two teams from the Regional Leagues (GHC narrowly missed out on having two of the four teams in the competition). First up was Bromley & Beckenham...

20160501BU14-Team-200The 38th Anniversary Mercian Home Counties Colts Hockey League Finals Day was held at Surbiton Hockey Club on a sunny (can spring actually be coming?) May 1st.  Guildford U14 were in a final four semi final v Sevenoaks, while Surbiton played Spencer in the other matchup. We fielded a sizeable 16 man squad which was helpful as all players saw action across two fast paced, tough games...

20160424GU10-CanterburyMedals-200The Under 10 Girls’ ‘A Team’ had a terrifically successful day at the annual Canterbury HC invitational on Sunday. The standard was expected to be very high with Canterbury themselves entering two teams, Holcombe, Sevenoaks and our local rivals Surbiton also in attendance. In total there were nine teams in our age group which meant the girls played tonnes of games over the course of a very long and tiring day...

2016417GU12SouthFinalsMedals-200Another record breaking season for GHC Juniors and in particular for our girls. The Under 12 Girls, having already won the Surrey Plate competition this season, won Silver medals in both the Surrey Cup and the South Cup to qualify for the England Hockey National Finals to be held at Beeston HC on Saturday 14 May. This is a first for GHC Under 12 Girls!

20160416BU16EndOfSeason7-200The Under 16 Boys had their final training session on Saturday 16 April. A nice occasion for some game play, to look back on the season and accomplishments, to congratulate the players and of course to say a big thanks to all involved in making the season happen...

20160410BU14ATeamRegionals-200The Under 14 Cup team had come through their EH Tier 1 competition easily. We offered to host the Tier 2 event and so at GHC on 10th April, we had Crostyx, Canterbury and Surbiton come to play in the regional play-offs. Only the top team would go through the Tier 3, the national finals of the top 8 teams across the competition. The day panned out for the U14s to be a genuine roller coaster in terms of emotions...

20160403BU14Bath-200After having played the Bath side in a friendly pre Easter the boys were keen to play again after a 1-1 draw where had the majority of the play and conceded a penalty stroke in the final few minutes. This time we were away and headed down to Bath Buccaneers who are based at the University of Bath...

20160320BU16SouthHuddle-200The Under 16 Boys compete in four leagues this season. The South League team has done really well to win all of their league matches and to be in the play-offs for a place in League Finals Day taking place 1st May...

20160320GU14Fire1200Guildford Fire faced Reading in the final league match of the season. That this was effectively a knock-out match caught the girls' imagination. Reading were second in the league with Guildford third. A win for Guildford would propel Guildford into the Home Counties Girls League finals day at the expense of Reading. Reading required a draw or a win to progress...

20160320GU18Team-200The U18 girls played their second game in four days against Richmond up in Chiswick. This was to be quite a poignant game with Jess, Polly, Eloise K and Kathryn playing their last junior games! Additionally, Gabriella, who had been with us from Junior FC in Barcelona for the last five weeks was also playing her last game before returning home...
