Guildford Ladies welcomed London Wayfarers to Broadwater for a clash of the league's 3rd and 4th placed teams...
This season's first encounter between the teams ended in a 5–5 draw at Wayfarers; this time each team would be seeking an outright result.
The game started with both teams attacking and counter attacking well. Guildford had more possession, but the Wayfarer’s defence kept the Guildford forwards at bay. Equally, Wayfarers challenged the unfamiliar Guildford defensive line up – with Libby out through injury.
Alice Cobb made some great saves to keep a clean sheet.
Guildford’s attack finally paid off and they won a penalty corner two minutes before half time. The initial shot was defended, but Maddie Richardson found the net to give the home team the lead.
From the restart Guildford intercepted the ball and the final attack of the half resulted in another penalty corner. Julia Blackstock flicked (not sure if that was the intention??) the ball (she was convinced it was going in????) but Kerry Jennings made sure to give Guildford 2-0 lead at half time.
The second half started with Wayfarers attacking hard and Alice and the Guildford defence standing strong. Both teams worked very hard and had many attacks, but it wasn't until the 63 minute when Guildford’s Emma Stewart converted a penalty corner to give Guildford their 3rd goal.
The final score was 3-0.
