Trojans have been somewhat of an enigma for the Guildford Men’s 1s in recent years: having drawn both of the last two fixtures, we were hoping this time we’d come home with all three points.
We were off to a good start- almost a carbon copy of the week before. Remke entered the circle on the right-hand baseline and connected with Fergusson on the far past for a tap in, although this time he scored, and in style! Trojans worked their way back into the game, scoring an equalizer just before half time.
The second half was one-way traffic. GHC played well, and true to our pre-match goal, came away with the three points we needed to stay in the mix at the top of the league table halfway through the season.
A deserved win aside, the highlight of the day was in fact Freddy Esplen playing his last game for GHC before he shoots off for travels and then to University. Not only has Freddy been instrumental in our success this season, he has won numerous titles in his time at GHC as a Junior. His playing record is applaudable: the results speak for themselves. A personal highlight for me has been his remarkable loyalty to this club. Freddy stuck with us throughout an extended period of difficulty on the field (for the M1s) and was not tempted to move on when the going got tough. He can be proud of what he has achieved, and we wish him every success at University. Good luck!
Merry Christmas everyone!! Rest up and lets ‘start again’ after the break.
