A good crowd gathered for this England Hockey Cup game on a sunny Sunday lunchtime.
And it was Guildford who started brightly earning an early short corner which they converted into a 1-0 lead with Emily B touching home Sasha’s shot.
The encouraging start was continued by Guildford who piled on the pressure with some slick passing and forced the Woking keeper into a number of saves.
The continued pressure lead to another Guildford short corner which was scored this time neatly by Charlotte. The final goal in the first half was by Juliet after her initial shot had been saved and Guildford went into half time 3-0 up.
The second half gave Woking no respite and after a good shot went narrowly wide by Emily H, Guildford’s dominance was rewarded with a double by Charlotte, both well taken first times shots, the second one from Camilla’s cross.
Some slick interplay between Sasha and Emily B saw Sasha shoot just wide but it always felt like another goal would come, and at the next short corner Eleanor nutmegged (Panna – in today’s parlance) the goalkeeper for a rare goal. The look on her face was as much surprise as celebration.
The best goal of the lot was saved until last as Emily B injected some pace after a neat interception and the ensuing cross shot by Emily H was deflected very professionally in at the back post by Robin.
Woking had a period of pressure just towards the end but Guildford coped with relative ease and came away with a 7-0 win. There may be harder games but all the girls should be commended for their play today, the were good to watch. Thank you.
