The girls arrived at Broadwater to play Spencer on a beautiful November morning, we welcomed two new players to the team, Sadie and Tallulah; once on the pitch they warmed up and prepared to defend their season unbeaten run.
Game one; the girls flew into action and continued to pass the ball amongst themselves, staying in position soon opened up opportunities for the forwards who maximised winning 4-0.
During the second game Emily came under attack, saving some good shots at goal determined to keep her goal against tally for the season low, at 3-0 we allowed our own Martha, who had been lent to the opposition, to attack from the right and score a goal! The score finished 3-1.
The third and final game was against a strong Spencer team, the girls needed to lift their defensive play and start to mark and control our own "D." The rose to the challenge and under pressure manged to slowly take control of the game, with break away and well taken goals the game finished 3-0.
Well done team, some parts of our game we can continue to support but still unbeaten we head to Surbiton next week.
Thanks for all the parents support and to Jon for umpiring.
Team Storm
Played 3: W2, D1, L0
- v Spencer 1s - 1:1 (Katie 1),
- v Spencer 2s - 4:0 (Jasmine Hat Trick and Katie 1),
- v Spencer 3s - 3:1 (Tamara Hat Trick)
The girls were a little slow to get used to the new formation this week with our new wing attackers of Jasmine and Tamara, hence the low score in the first game. We had 7 out field players all day as our star goalie Amelia was ill (get well soon, A!),
So the defense had Izzy play sweeper initially but then moved up to play a more central role as the morning moved on (Izzy's energy could then allow our team to play wider and pass better). Our scramble defense was good with Lexi very solid in the centre and a much improved Chloe and Caitlyn moving up the pitch and pressing the Spencer teams hard.
Some really good tackling today from everyone and some of our own terrible (you know who you are !!) passing kept our defense busy but our star performances this week were in attack - from the aforementioned Tamara, Jasmine and Katie.
The side is now passing and crossing effectively and causing opposition team lots of trouble, resulting in many more goals from sweeps and first time hits. Great work ladies, more next week please!
