Guildford Gazelles faced their toughest challenge yet in the U14 League with a match against a very big and powerful Richmond team. We were also missing a couple of key players, and had to shuffle round positions, meaning some girls played in new positions.
The first half was excellent, as we made use of Richmond's slow start to try out our transfers at the back and some slick passing in midfield. One of these moves led to a fantastic far post finish from Caitlyn after excellent work on the left side by Rosie and Evie. Our forwards were always a threat and pressed hard when Richmond had the ball. There were also gasps from the crowd as we tried out some of our snazzy corner routines!
After half time Richmond grew in confidence and started to use their extra pace and power to play balls through our defence and run onto them. Grace made some brave saves when left one on one, and there were some last ditch tackles from our battling defenders. It was only a matter of time before one of these chances went in, and unfortunately Richmond popped in the equaliser with just 2 minutes to go.
A great learning experience, and the girls worked very hard for each other. Well done Gazelles!
