The Girls Under 16s played two league matches today. One team travelled to Woking. And one team played on our new blue pitch at GHC...
A second league match for this team - the first one was tough against a strong Reading side with a borrowed GHC keeper.
South Berkshire also didn't have a keeper and so it was Alex and Amelia to the rescue - they both played for both teams, reminding us of just how good our GHC goalkeepers are and how difficult it is to get past them!
Guildford girls started strong and had nearly all of the possession with plenty of attacks and attempts at getting in the D. For all of the activity inside our 23, we had trouble getting the ball in the goal. But were finally rewarded with a goal for 1-0.
South Berks didn't take this sitting down (so to speak) and did their best to counter our efforts. By the end of the first half, they were the team with the lion's share of the chances. One of these went in just before the half time break for 1-1.
The second half started pretty even. We were showing how well we understood how effective passing the ball to each can be - which resulted in plenty of the play going our way. By the middle of the second half we had the upper hand but just couldn't manage to get the ball into the net (and perhaps some work on short corners is in the planning?). The South Berks defenders were alert and their (our) keeper was just too good!
The game ended 1-1 with all girls having played really well. Some definite progress since the Reading match. Keep up the good work!
Particular mention for the two Annas who both played their first match for Guildford today - really well done! Well done to the whole team and of course to both keepers!
(And the news from Woking was a win for the other GHC GU16 team.)
