The Under 18 Boys Premier League is full of strong teams. The Boys' first game was away to Reading in what was a tough match that ended in a tight 4-3 loss. Two weeks later, the boys faced Old Loughtonians at home...
The boys who were part of the National Indoor team who played OL in January might have recognised a few of the lads, in particular, the massive GK who looked like he hardly had to move to fill up the whole goal.
The game started with Guildford having most of the possession and attack. Unfortunately, OL got behind most of the defence on a breakaway and we were 0-1 down against the run of play.
Some good passing and an attempt at more intensity had us in the D or close with a few attempts. However...it was suddenly 0-2. The boys never gave up and were rewarded with a goal resulting from some good passing followed by perseverance and teamwork in the D. OL came back to score another before half time for 1-3.
Whatever was said at half time will remain with the team (don't want to give away our secrets), but it worked a charm. The boys came out redoubling their efforts and tied things up through 2 short corners - a beautifully struck one by Fergie followed by a nice drag flick from Harry.
Not satisified with a draw and the whole team still searching for opportunities, Hobie made the most of a brilliant one when he intercepted a 16, wrong-footed a couple of defenders, drew the keeper and stayed composed to dribble around whoever was still left scrambling to keep him out.
A 4-3 win after a solid second half performance (and a forgettable first one).
