GU12 Gazelles v Surbiton Ospreys

 13th Oct 2019

20191013-GU12-Gazelles-660A great performance from the girls today, both in terms of quality of play and the effort they put in.

We started nervously, which is hardly surprising when faced with a team who were mostly two school years older and taller.

Surbiton scored an early goal, but after this we regrouped and started to pass the ball around confidently.

Eliza controlled the midfield, mixing up simple passes to spread the play with some driving runs to open up space. Our wide midfielders tried to open up the channels out wide for the forwards to run into, and the defence worked hard to keep their players out of the D.

We were very unfortunate to concede a second goal on the break in the third quarter, but this allowed us to throw caution to the winds, and the introduction of Rosie up front alongside Beth gave us just the right combination of pace, power and skill.

Eliza finished off a well worked goal with ten minutes to go, which was closely followed by a brace from Beth against her old club.  A last minute scare with a Surbiton corner didn’t faze our defence, who put pressure on the ball and forced them to shoot wide.

An amazing 3-2 win from our battling team, who never stopped trying and forced the opposition to give us the ball all over the pitch.

Team: Grace, Holly, Gemma, Katie, Jemima, Martha M, Martha R, Martha Rob, Eliza, Rosie, Amelia, Ella, Beth, Anna B.
