The day had arrived for the official opening of the new pitch and the start of the 2019/20 league season. Saturday saw a fantastic opening ceremony lead by Club President, Maggs Kyte.
The Ladies' 1st XI were unlucky not to secure all three points against Teddington. Having the lion's share of the possession and clear-cut chances, Teddington will be delighted to walk away with a point.
The Men’s 1s fell to an early 0-2 deficit against a very strong Hampstead and Westminster 2s. The strength in depth of a club like H&W is unbelievable - no wonder they are the current Premier League champions! It didn’t take long for Guildford to wipe the sleep out of their eyes and get cracking in the South Prem. The dogged determination and relentless work from the front four both in defence and attack ensured we scored five unanswered goals. H&W scored a late consolation to make the final score 5-3.
Two U18’s, Cant and Relph were excellent at the back. Relph was named man of the match and has set the bar exceptionally high for the season ahead.
Players on debut fitted in as if they have been with us for at least a season; Elliot Hall, James Bennett and Chas Richardson had excellent first games for the club. Returning members, Jason Ellis Woodley and Dan Fox both made good returns in game one.
