U10s and 12s Win Gold and Silver in Canterbury

 31st Mar 2019

20190331-GU12-1Four teams of GHC Minis travelled to Canterbury for their annual South Spring Invitational. The Under 10 Boys and Girls both finished first and the U12s both second in their age groups.

The Under 10 Girls retained their trophy as reported previously - Tournament report here.

The Under 12 Girls also had a good day:

A strong squad was keen to put in a  decent performance at the end of season event in Sunday but baltic Cantebury!

Over the whole day the girls didn't concede a goal until the final and scored some great team goals involved some great passing and excellent finishing.  In the group we beat Wimbledon, Saffron Walden, Canterbury and Asford and then had a tough game against Tunbridge Wells which we drew 0-0.

That left the girls top of a hard group with Wayfarers to play. After some great passing movement and a lot of hard work the girls had a bundle of chances which the goalkeeper kept at bay and we hit the post twice. Wayfayrers then managed to hit us on the break and scored from a deflection. After a lot of work it wasn't quite to be our day but it was excellent to see the girls dig in and work hard for the equaliser. Congratulation to Wayfarers for the win and the girls took home a creditable silver. No doubt we will be back again next year .

Lots of fun as a squad and some great hockey. It will be great next year to keep up the momentum with the u12s being a large squad again next year and we wish the u12s heading up to the u14s all the best!!

Thanks to all the help from Mark umpiring and Katie/Robert for making it all happen on and off the pitch.

Squad - Anouk (GK), Ottallie, Holly, Martha Robbo, Relphy, Isla, Kirsten, Martha C, Freya

A few words from tournament organisers Canterbury:

"We do hope your junior teams enjoyed our Annual Tournament on the 31st March, we enjoyed hosting you all and Annie and the CJHC team were very impressed with the standard of hockey and the attitude of all the children. It always has us reflecting on how far our children have come on since the start of the season – in hockey, in confidence, and in friendships, it’s a good marker for all these things. So thank you for joining us.

"Thank you too for assisting us in providing umpires - we appreciate this isn’t always easy to source and manage but it is a huge help to us on the day.

"Congrats to the medal winners...
