The Guildford Ladies 1s, supported by some of the 2nd XI, travelled to Lee Valley Hockey and Tennis Centre at the Olympic Park Legacy venue in London, to play East London Ladies in the Semi-Final of the England Hockey Tier 2 National Championship...
Guildford adopted their now traditional high tempo, high pressure attack. This was met with equal force from East London. The opposition had the first attack on goal, which resulted in a short corner from which a deflection found the Guildford net to take an early lead. Guildford responded with force and within a short time the pressure resulted in winning a short corner. Alice O’Hagan took the corner and found the net to bring the scores level.
The first half continued with attacks from both sides; Guildford were creating more opportunities but failing to convert.
The second half commenced in attacking mode and Guildford had an increased determination; East London played very well to contain the relentless attacks.
However, it was only a matter of time before Guildford broke the deadlock with Julia “JJ” Blackstock forced the ball through the middle of the pitch for Kelly Taylor to score giving Guildford the lead.
The final score was 2-1 to Guildford.
Guildford now take on Loughborough University 2nd XI in the final at Lee Valley on the 5th May.
