GU10 Fire v Epsom, Merton and Cheam in Driving Rain

 3rd Mar 2019

20190303-GU10-FireOn a miserable early Sunday morning, GHC Girls U10 ‘Yellows’ turned up to play 5 matches at Charterhouse against three of our local teams.

The Girls had a slightly slow start in the first match against Epsom forgetting a little bit about where to be on the pitch but still scored some really good goals and kept a clean sheet to win the match.

I’m sure the gale and driving rain wasn’t helping but in the next two matches against Merton and Cheam they got back to playing really good hockey and ran out winners in both matches.

The wide players - Sophie and Emily - stayed wide and it made a big difference to the attacking play. Bea and Emilia took full advantage and scored some great goals. Martha was also playing well in centre midfield making sure the ball got out to the wide players and getting a few goals herself.

The two defenders Izzy and Bibi were very strong at the back and hardly anything was getting passed. They also started to push up to help the attackers during the matches and made the team unstoppable with Bibi getting goals as well. I must also mention how good Izzy has become at injecting.

Finally we must mention Beth who’s doing a great job as the keeper and really helping the team out - four clean sheets out of five. The girls ended up winning all 5 matches, scoring a hatful of goals and only conceding two.

Well done to all of them to play such good hockey in such bad weather.

Team: Emily, Martha, Emília, Sophie, Bea, Bibi, Issy and Beth
