The Ladies 1s had a difficult game on Saturday against promotion hunting Hampstead and Westminster.
Guildford were under pressure from the first whistle, an unfamiliar position to find themselves in. However, the defence and goalkeeper Alice Cobb, in particular, weathered the relentless attacks and eventually the balance of the game opened up. However, Hampstead kept attacking and shortly before half time took the lead.
The second half was much more evenly balanced and indeed Guildford started to look the stronger side. However, the rub of the ball was not on Guildford’s side and Hampstead capitalised with a bouncing ball that found the back of the net.
Guildford did not give up and piled the pressure on and eventually from a short corner Julia “JJ” Blackstock scored to bring the deficit back to 1. Time was not on Guildford’s side and even though we were now in control there was not enough time to find the equaliser. Final result: 2-1 to Hampstead and Westminster.
