GU12 Storm Away at Surbiton

 27th Jan 2019

Always a tough encounter at Surbiton away but on a chilly morning the girls (and parents!) showed great resilience and played some attractive hockey with just reward.

With only one goal conceded all morning Theodora was called on infrequently on her Storm debut, Olivia and Jemima thwarting most attacks. However when called into action she made some good saves and clearances to safety.

In all the matches it was great to see some really good 'basics'. First touch control and hard accurate passing made the Storm attacks very difficult to defend. Amelie dominated centre midfield and with driving runs and accurate passes she soon brought the wings and forward into the games.

Anna B, Immy and Evie made numerous driving runs down the wings whilst Beth showed great skills and strength mostly at centre forward. The results on a number of the games didn't reflect the dominance of team Storm and with a little more composure in front of goal the score could have doubled.

Something to work on in training in terms of passing instead of shooting from an acute angle plus going for direction rather than power - helps also to get our shots away earlier.

Overall a fantastic mornings hockey by the girls and hopefully something to help parents take their minds off their cold hands and feet! Thanks to everyone for your support and travelling up to Surbiton. Look forward to next week subject to weather!
