The GHC Men’s 1st XI beat local rivals, Woking Hockey Club, 4-0 at home on Saturday afternoon, the highlight being the first clean sheet in some time and against a much-improved Woking outfit from the away fixture earlier in the season.
An exciting first half deadlock was broken just before half time with a slick corner routine. The second half saw the GHC Men assert their dominance once again in the later stages of a game, scoring a further three goals to see off the Woking Men. It was a pleasure to have young stars in Sanderson and Relph return after their National Indoor success in the GHC Under 18 Boys team, adding an extra element of speed and skill to the team.
Alongside a reliable defensive unit, Jayme Crouch was instrumental in securing the clean sheet. Ed Pearson and Luke Rodgers were as solid as ever, with close to 100% pass completion on the day.
Woking Hockey Club can be pleased with the progress they have made with their Men’s team over the last 18 months. Fortunately, with the restructuring of the leagues they will not be relegated at the end of this season, regardless of their finishing position, as they certainly have the potential to be a competitive team given the time.
On Saturday, snow depending, the men are away at London Academicals.
