Once more unto the breach at a brutally cold Surbiton HC, the Hurricanes bravely took on the bitter wind to produce their most cohesive team performance so far this season. Played 4 won 4...
v Hawks 3-0 (Tilly F x2, Issy W)
v Eagles 3-2 (Tilly F, Jemima F, Issy W)
v Magpies 1-0 (Tilly F)
v Swifts 2-0 (Molly P, Jemima F)
After our usual pre-match tactics talk and now legendary “world’s greatest stretch”, Molly P agreed to lead the team with Charlie J as vice. Both did a good job of motivating the troops to stay alert in the conditions which even extended to sleet.
v Hawks (3-0 win)
The girls started well as they did what they had been asked in playing the game at a fast tempo from restarts. This enabled us to get around the opposition and create some great chances forcing 4 short corners. The girls converted only 1 but came very close with 2 others prompting discussions about making the right decisions! But some other good outfield pressure saw us score 2 more in broken play running away 3-0 winners.
v Eagles (3-2 win)
Next up were the Eagles who had beaten us 2 weeks ago as the final whistle blew. Reminded of this the girls went about their business with purpose taking an early lead. We then suffered a lapse in concentration allowing the opposition to score 2 well taken goals. The girls had to dig deep and remembered to move the ball wide with Charlie J and Jemima F linking well down the left and Tallulah T and Molly P down the right. Creating some great chances with Issy W putting in another sterling effort at Centre Mid. The coaches brain was frozen by now and can’t remember who scored the winner but 2 more went in the back of the goal seeing us run out justified victors. Sweet revenge and some solid defending from all our girls at the back!
v Magpies (1-0 win)
We were now playing with some good rhythm and string passes together nicely. A 1-0 victory against a strong Magpies team when Louisa made some great saves should have been more.
v Swifts (2-0 win)
Then trying some other positional changes we ran out 2-0 victors against the Swifts, with some good performances from Martha F and Ruby M.
This week’s player of the day was Tilly F with her amazing goal scoring record.
Hats off to the girls – they are really beginning to play with cohesion and more often than not making the right decisions but most importantly they have upped the tempo and are making those decisions faster. Keep it up girls – you’re awesome!
