Men's 1s Share Spoils in Top of Table Clash

 20th Jan 2019

20181013-M1sTeamThe game on Saturday lived up to the hype leading up to it. With five regular starters unavailable, it was Guildford who were in search of the title of Trojans on Saturday.

Harry Relph, Elliot Sanderson and Freddy Esplen were all away with the GHC BU18 Indoor team. They have, however, all been forgiven after coming home with gold medals after winning the EH National Clubs Super6s Championships. The other two noticeable absentees were Charterhouse staff member Sam Plater, who has suffered a groin injury, and Edward Pearson who couldn’t get away from his demanding day job.

The Guildford Men came out of the blocks firing and were awarded the early lead through Ross Ferguson (could you have guessed that?). The remainder of the first half was an even affair, with both sides fairly cautious in sending too many players forward in attack.

The second half would inevitably see Trojans push for an equaliser, which left them exposed at the back for the most unlikely of starts to double Guildford’s lead. Michael Dorgan scored his first league goal for the club and his goal celebration reminded us all of his footballing past.

All credit must go to Trojans for the way they continued to believe and push to stay in the game. They thoroughly deserve to be where they are in the league standings. They scored their first with eight minutes on the clock and went on to score the equaliser with the last play of the game. It was hard to be disappointed even under those circumstances, as the Trojans Men deserved a point for their efforts on Saturday. Well done Trojans!

Looking ahead to the weekend, we play local rivals Woking on Saturday at Broadwater. There is no such thing as an easy game, Woking will be up for the challenge and desperate to secure their second win of the season.

Good luck to the Ladies 1s as they restart their campaign on Saturday. We look forward to catching up with them and the rest of the club at theRace Night on Saturday evening.
