Masterful organising by skipper Carney achieved the impossible with all 13 players having a full 70 minutes playing time, with Miles Barnard aiding and abetting the 3s and Geoff Tonks featuring prominently for our opposition.
What’s more, on loan Tonks slipped a sneaky pass to his temporary team mate from Oxted who gave them a 1-0 lead; very much against the run of play, in fact on their first attack!
Gondoliers continued to dominate possession but Oxted were looking dangerous on the break and an evenly contested game followed. After a spell of chaotic goalmouth action in the Oxted defence, Sturgess scooped the ball reverse stick over the diving Oxted keeper. 1-1 and half time beckoned.
Tactical tweaks gave Guildford a more secure 2nd half and when Howells was first to a loose ball in the Oxted D to convert and establish a 2-1 lead, it looked as if the Gondos were favourites to win.
Guildford had good possession, the greater number of shots and corners but could not find the elusive third. Sure enough Oxted converted a short corner to draw level at 2-2 and secure the draw.
