BU14s In EH Cup Tier 2 v Holcombe

 18th Nov 2018

The BU14 B Team came up against their toughest opponents this season in Tier 2 of the England Hockey Championships and have since ascertained that Holcombe have not entered a Team in Tier 1 (so we were clearly playing their A Team)...

The 7-0 loss was in no way a reflection of how the boys played, quite the contrary there was some very good hockey played by all the boys and this match gave a very good chance to understand what is needed when playing against a top team.

Having said all the above the team played some excellent hockey as a team, which only serves to highlight the marginal improvements which would have made a big difference.

Ila (our borrowed Gu14 keeper) had an absolute blinder in goal - I shudder to think what the score would have been without her superb effort, thank you Ila!

In defence Joe's pace and power were crucial in much of the defensive play. James M also had a great game using his skills to intercept and steal the ball.

In the midfield Archie was constantly on the move with high energy levels both on and off the ball fighting for everything at Right Half before laying off passes down the right wing. Toby also had a good game at centre half, making some great distributions, it was also good to see his tackling improving (clearly the indoor hockey has helped with getting low to the ball), Gouldie took on some pertinent coaching tips from Matt P and then played well at Left Half.

Up front Ollie fought as much as possible at Centre Forward using his skills to get past many attackers.  Above all the boys kept fighting right to the end of the match and should be proud of themselves.  It was a good game of hockey all round and a good learning experience.

Team:    Ted, James D, Joe H, Ben J, Liam, Toby, James M, Archie, James R, Ethan V, Joe G, Tommy H-F, Ollie dGW, Oscar dGW Ila G.
