The Men’s 1s have retained their unbeaten run in the South Prem Div 2 league following an away 2-2 against league contenders Eastbourne HC.
The nature of such a journey is undoubtedly making the Eastbourne HC Men’s team a formidable force on their home pitch. That said, the Guildford Men came home thinking of ‘what could have been.’
We went up 1-0 from another Ross Ferguson goal, now the league’s leading goal scorer, only to have Eastbourne equalise just before the break, with what was their only chance of the first half.
The travelling fans were just what the weary Men’s team needed after what was a frustrating score line at half time.
Following another extended period of domination, we went 2-1 up through Matt Fitter’s fortunate goal. There were several clear-cut opportunities to finish off the game, but they weren’t to be.
Instead, much like the end to the first half, Eastbourne scored their equaliser with two minutes on the clock! A disappointing finish to the game, but a very good point earned away at a ground that most teams in this league will find difficult to collect points at.
A few big names were sorely missed, the likes of last week’s hattrick hero, Sam Plater and the in-form defender Luke Rodgers. Man of the Match this week was Ben Greene who has found some excellent form, consistently meeting the standards that have been set for this group of players.
Next fixture sees the Men’s 1s at home with an opportunity to stay on top and potentially open up a lead in the top 4. This will not be an easy fixture against Horsham, who have only recently been relegated from the South Prem 1, they have loads of experience across the park.
Push back is at 1430.
