Saturday saw the Ladies 1s welcome Surbiton to Broadwater for only the second home game of the season...
The game got off to a nervy start with some good attacking play from both sides. However there was a slight lack of self belief which hampered our now natural attacking style. That said the ladies dug deep and worked hard and it was not long before the opportunities started to come.
An attack on the left from Niamh, was closed down so the ball was moved around the back and simple passes from Alice to Hannah to Anja found the ball on the right base line, passed back to Kerry who scored. Surbiton fought back and 10 minutes later had equalised.
Guildford came out in the second half a different team, very much the attacking force that has become the norm and it was not long before opportunities started to come. A well worked attack resulted in a short corner. Alice O’Hagan stepped up, struck the ball which appeared to have been saved but some how crossed the line to give Guildford the lead.
Guildford’s confidence grew and in front of a decent home crowd they took control and Kerry found the backboard on two more occasions, giving her a hatric and a 4-1 win to Guildford. Kerry was awarded man of the match, but mention must go to Alice O’Hagan who has dropped back into the central defensive position whilst Libby’s broken finger is recovering. She and Jenna kept our back line secure.
This weekend is top of the table clash away at Marlow, it should be an exciting game!!!!
