The Men’s First XI were back in action against Staines on Saturday, at what Ed Pearson described as #fortressbroadwater. The men came out earlier to support our Ladies 1s, who can only be described as being on fire!! The Guildford Ladies 1s were excellent in their match against Surbiton, securing a fantastic 4-1 victory in front of a very appreciative home crowd.
The standard was set and the men had no choice but to step up and work hard following a exhilarating performance. We made a much better start to the game, moving the ball at a high tempo while being uncharacteristically patient at the same time. An early corner was accurately dispatched into the bottom corner by Sam Plater. Unfortunately, this seemed to wake up our opposition, and as the visitors settled into life at #fortressbroadwater, the momentum of the game swung their way. A darting run and neat finish from one of the Staines midfielders levelled the match.
Luke Rodgers and Ben Green were instrumental in stemming the flow of attacks from Staines. On the back of this superb display of defending, we manufactured another corner which Sam put away in the same spot. Whatever was said at half time turned the game on its head and wave after wave of fluid Guildford attack resulted in several fantastic opportunities which were put away in a ruthless fashion. Final score was 7-1 GHC.
On Saturday 10 November we find ourselves in an early season 6 point battle, away at Eastbourne.
