Last weekend the ladies travelled up to Paddington Recreation Ground for their South 2 game against Hampstead and Westminster. Following a weeks break from action and a midweek training session lead by Men’s 1s player, Ross Fergusson, the team was fired up for continuing their winning ways...
The game started in now familiar dominance with the opposition having to do a lot of defending. Guildford’s attacks lead to a number of short corners. One, a strike from Alice O’Hagan hit the backboard to give the lead. Hampstead and Westminster fought hard and created opportunities themselves, even missing an open goal. The game was fairly evenly balanced with attacks at either end and they equalised before halftime.
The second half continued in a similar way although Guildford’s superior fitness started to show and they began to dominate play. Hampstead & Wesminster’s goal keeper made some good saves, but one attack saw Kerry Jennings dive to deflect a shot into the keeper, but the rebound she managed to put in the back of the net (proving the training in the week on deflections was worthwhile!!)
The final score was 2-1 to Guildford. This result leaves Guildford top of the league on goal difference, but with a game in hand.
The Ladies are at home this weekend, first time since September so do come and support them.
