Ladies 1s Continue Winning Ways - Even Away

 13th Oct 2018

2018-19-Team-photoThe Ladies 1’s continued on their October road trip of away matches with a visit to Havant.

Having had an unnecessarily tight game the previous week the ladies were eager to push forward with the dominant play of the preceding weeks. Guildford dominated from the start and the first attack resulted in a short corner. This was duly taken and Lara deflected the ball into the net giving Guildford the lead in the first minute. Havant, fought back and five minutes later scored from a short corner themselves.

Guildford attacked hard from the re start and the pressure soon resulted with an excellent individual effort from Hannah B scoring from a reverse hit on the edge of the D. Guildford maintained the dominance throughout the rest of the half but could not score.

The second half saw Havant being more physical in their approach to the game, but this was matched in equal measures by Guildford and inevitably this resulted in cards for both sides. Guildford managed their progress when a player down better than Havant and continued to attack. It was not long before Guildford scored, this time two in quick succession from Harriet, giving Guildford a 4-1 lead.

Havant did not give up and their persistence forced a mistake from the Guildford defence and they scored a second goal, much to the consternation of Alice, Guildford’s keeper. The final result was 4-2, maintaining Guildford’s top of the league position.

There is no game this weekend and then they are away again on the 27th October to Hampstead and Westminster.
