GU10 Fire, Storm and Hurricane in 12 Games

 7th Oct 2018

20181007-GU10Fire-200Under 10 Girls were out at Broadwater in yet another invitational this time against Old Georgians Dragons, Reigate, East Grinstead and Horsham. Plenty of goals scored (a few let in, too) and loads of learning and fun...

A great performance from Fire on Sunday.

Girls drew 1-1 against Dragons, Won 6-0 against Reigate, drew 2-2 in a brilliant match against EG and Won 3-0 against Horsham. Great team work resulting in some lovely passes and with a good positional awareness the girls remained unbeaten. Fantastic attacking from our forwards Emily, Emilia and Sophie L resulting in all of them scoring great goals, 12 in total! Sophie B and Martha worked hard distributing the ball and helped setting up our forwards as well

as running back to support our defenders. Bibi and Issy created a solid wall and defended well our d under pressure. Well done girls, the future is bright!

Guildford Storm has a great morning of hockey. The girls played with a lot of heart and skill. This first game against Reigate was impressive with a fantastic team goal as Elsa linked with Millie who swept it into the D to be finished expertly by Grace.

In the second game vs Dragons 1, we were unlucky to concede at the very end to win a commendable draw 1-1.  Niamh scored another good team goal.

We lost the last 2 games to bigger stronger opposition but still created chances to win.

The girls kept their shape well. They adapted to some different positions and we were able to find the best combinations. We need to work on "getting stuck in" - get in front of the opposition, win the 50/50 balls, and don't let people past you.

Very good and thanks to all for coming!

W1, L3

We welcomed Horsham, Dragons, Reigate and EG to a rather chilly October morning at Broadwater. The girls warmed up and ready to go we quickly settled into our positions and the team were hoping to continue what has been to date a good run.

Our first game against Horsham was a close fought game as Jessica, Bea and Hannah took control of the game in the midfield, but we struggled to finish our chances until with seconds to go Isobel finished a pass into the “D”....finishing with a 1-0 win.

Game two, against Dragons 2 again the team had to work hard defensively, Evie ensuring we marked and helped the ball out of our half, but the run of play went against us resulting in a loss 0-1.

Game three against a strong Dragons 1.  Lexi, and Mimi under sustained pressure at the back as the opposition used a couple of very strong players, although we did help them with some clearances across our own “D” allowing them to score.  However we kept working and Jasmine made a run in the forwards passing the ball for another goal for Guildford.  Loss1-5 (Isobel).

The final game against EG and I have never seen the team battle so hard.  The backs and midfield tackling everyone who came into our half but the pressure proved too much and the opposition scored 3 goals but this score did not reflect the hard work Guildford Hurricanes put in, with a consolation goal we always looked like we could.... but we didn’t!  Loss 1-3 (Isobel)

Although it feels like a tough week the team did well and continue to improve each week, with a few easy points to solve we will be much stronger next time.

Thanks as always to the parents for all your support, umpires and of course Mercedes for all the hard work in arranging these tournaments.  See you Friday.
