Woking v Guildford

The Ladies 1’s opened their 2018/19 season in South Division 2 on 22nd September, having been promoted last season. The first game on the 22nd September was a local Derby at Woking. The team went into the game full of expectation and keen to put all the pre-season work into practice.

Guildford were the dominant team early in the game and were 2-0 up after 15 minutes. All of the attack came from Guildford although Woking did capitalise on mistakes and built some opportunities, which were dealt with by Guildford’s solid defence. A 3rd goal was scored before half time.

The second half saw Guildford working to eliminate the mistakes of the first half and as a result the majority of the game was in the Woking half. 5 further goals were scored a combination of penalty corners and field play. To the frustration of Guildford’s defence and Goalkeeper, a last minute goal from a penalty corner. The final score was 8-1.

Guildford v Epsom

The Ladies 1’s first home game was going to be an interesting game as it was against the team relegated from last years Division 1. Without doubt Guildford went into the game with confidence and their attacking style took Epsom by surprise and within a couple of minutes took the lead. Epsom could not cope with the Guildford press and they were kept in their own half for great periods of the game. During the first half 3 more goals followed.

The second half continued in the same way, Guildford, being totally dominant, maintaining a high tempo for the whole game. 4 further goals were scored. It was pleasing to see that from six short corners four goals were scored. The final score was 8-0.

Epsom were very gracious in defeat and as was agreed they did not play badly, Guildford just had a very good game! Their coach commented that Guildford would have beaten last years South champions based on this game.

The team is largely un-changed from last season, but with some new additions and it is great to welcome Hannah, Jenna and Jamie to the squad.
