Raining, no keeper and the M25 was a car park. Such are the delights of an autumnal Saturday afternoon (yes the 22nd does count as autumn)...
Playing in white to counteract the gloom, the Gondoliers’ enthusiasm shone through. The defence worked tirelessly with Tim having a blinder between the posts, taking one for the team in the midriff (or thereabouts). The midfield lacked some cohesion but still managed to serve up some good passes for the forwards who enjoyed running at an obdurate Windsor defence.
But we rarely managed to trouble their keeper and realised that goals would be hard to come by to equalise the opening Windsor goal. Other notable events included: Tom being shoulder butted on the forehead and retiring to the sidelines to recover but soon deciding that playing in the rain was better than standing in the rain; newcomer Keith slotting in well at left midfield to prove a useful addition to the squad; the quality of some overheads proving less than impressive; and a final stinging through pass from Nick K to Nigel who slipped his defender and rounded the keeper to give us the draw as the final whistle blew.
The afternoon concluded with a convivial session with the Windsor lads in the pub afterwards especially as the Gondoliers had the greater staying power.
