Shadows Travel to Old Cranleighans

 22nd Sep 2018

Another away friendly saw Shadows travel to Old Cranleighans the site of a 8-1 thrashing for last season's squad...

A selection crisis mid-week created opportunities for new players to test themselves in a higher league against proven formidable opposition. Into the team came Dom Hardesty, Jason Strange and Freddy Lonie.

The Shadows started the game strongly and looked confident passing the ball between defence and midfield belying the fact this was many of the players first game of the season. OC scored first, somewhat against the run of play, however, Shadows hit back quickly with excellent play from Tom Fuller, a calm head in midfield, and a goal from Tom Lyne with a trademark finish high into the top of the net.

OC scored again after the break and for much of the game it remained 2-1 with Shadows pushing for the equaliser. Jason Strange held the ball up well working with the eager runners in Jordan Robson and Will Kefford. The defence looked confident for much of the game owing to a good combination of experience (Higgins and Gunner) and energy of youth (Dom and Freddy).

There were also some crucial saves from Lewis, including a memorable double save. The squad is beginning to look healthier in numbers as we approach the start of the league season with a few players to come in and challenge for places. The Shadows opening league fixture is with Woking 3’s (away) next week. Final Score 3-1.
