Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd of September saw Guildford host eleven clubs over the weekend in a pre-season festival for clubs in the Southern Counties Womens Hockey Leagues. Over 200 ladies from all 3 divisions played at least 2 games each day.
Guildford 1’s and 2’s have been training as one squad across the summer and it gave a great opportunity for all the players to show what they could do and push for places in the respective teams.
New players with eyes on places in each team, plus a wealth of U16’s looking for places in the 2nd XI all excelled and relished playing with and against seasoned 1st XI players. Everyone thrived and have given the coaches, managers and captains a hard choice in making their final team selections.
Across the weekend the results of the games were not the most important factors, but...for the record, Guildford did win all five of their games.
The end of last season saw three of the first eleven either about to become, or becoming mums (about the only excuse for not playing that the management will accept!!!), however, you cant keep these ladies away. Jo Collins joined the GHC Board and is now helping run our Club and Hetty Hayden has qualified as a sports masseur. She was on hand all weekend to keep all the players (and coaches!!) moving. Hetty is available for Sports massages and can be contacted via the Ladies 1’s.
