GHC Ladies 1s ventured out to Horsham on Thursday 22 March to play their game that had been frosted off several days before. This was a decisive game - if we won we would secure the league title with a game to spare...
The game commenced at a fast pace with the forwards pressing hard from Horsham’s pushback. Anna intercepted the ball towards the top of the D and put the ball past the keeper to give Guildford the lead in the first minute.
The game continued at a pace with Guildford passing the ball well and creating chances. Horsham were gaining some counter attacks, but our defence was quick to react and defended well, turning most situations into attack. On one of the numerous breaks Guildford drove down the line and brought the ball back into the Horsham D for Kerry to score giving a 2 goal lead.
Guildford continued to pressure and within 20 minutes, Harri, just returning from injury scored to take a 3-0 lead.
The second half started at the same intensity with Guildford having most of the possession. A fairly partisan crowd had gathered and were being pretty vocal, which seemed to add to our determination and it was not long before Guildford had another opportunity and JJ found herself in the D and for once rather than pass she put the ball in the net for 4-0. Horsham were trying hard to score but despite winning a number of short corners did not succeed. The final score 4-0.
The season finale is on Saturday at home against Eastbourne, the team are determined to win which would make it twelve league games in a row (plus we won our friendlies too!).
Come and see the Ladies 1s in action 1pm at GHC this Saturday.
