GU10 Hurricanes Win Gold in the Surrey Plate

 11th Mar 2018

20180311-GU10SurreyPlateGoldWell what a day and what an amazing performance by the Hurricane (aka Guildford C) team. Our journey to the Final was testing but at all times the girls kept their cool and played hockey like they have never played before...

Pool Game 1 v Spencer (4-0 win)

Our first opposition was Spencer C and we beat them 4-0 – very convincing performance by Hurricane

Pool Game 2 v London Wayfarers E (2-0 win)

We then played Wayfarer E and successfully beat them 2-0.

Pool Game 3 v London Wayfarers B (2-2 draw)

Our third game was against Wayfarer B.  his was a nail-biting affair as the girls were put under their first bit of pressure. After a great performance by both sides we drew 2-2. With two wins and a draw we had already done enough to find ourselves as winners of our group and therefore through to the Quarter-Finals.

With the real possibility of a penalty shoot-out in the later stages, we quickly recruited Bibi Thompson as our goalie and oh what a good decision that was.

Quarter-Final v Spencer U9A (2-0 win)

The quarter-finals saw us play Spencer’s U9 A team who were a very strong and able team but none the less we beat them 2-0.

Semi-Final v London Wayfarers B (1-1 draw at full time, 3-1 win on penalty strokes)

Keeping our cool we progressed into the semi finals and found ourselves up against one of our favourite oppositions Wayfarer Bs aka the Lynxes. Another gutsy performance by all the girls created a 1-1 draw, which took us straight into penalty flicks. The tension now had reached pretty high levels. Tilly, Charlie and Tallulah each went forward to take the penalty flicks for Hurricane. Meanwhile Bibi remained calm and unperturbed by the reality that her goalkeeping skills were going to be put to their strongest test yet. Well what a performance – Bibi  went and saved two of Wayfarers flicks, which saw us into the Final.

Final v London Wayfarers C (1-0 win)

The finals were a nerve racking 12 minutes but after plenty of attacking opportunities the 9th minute saw Emily get a lovely goal. Everyone went mad and 3 minutes later we were crowned champions of the Surrey Plate.

Each and every girl played a part in the success of the team today. Our defense, Charlie, Tallulah, Martha, Susannah and Ruby did a sensational job of keeping their cool when under attack, regaining possession and passing the ball out wide. They were quick to take their 16 yards and hit ins and they really let very little get past them.  A truly brilliant performance today.

Tilly, Emily, Evie and Molly did a fantastic job on the wings driving the ball down towards the baseline and passing it across to our D where Katie was patiently waiting. Couldn't have asked for more from any of them – what a great display for teamwork and drive in getting the ball down to the goal

Katie put on a great performance as our CF. She was fast, furious and boy did she score some goals for us.

Ruby ran her socks off as CM and was very good at continually feeding the ball back into the D.

I have to say I really enjoyed watching them play today. I am so very proud of their performance and hope they are too.
