Two Under 12 Girls teams competed in the Surrey Cup on Sunday, a tough competition involving 16 top teams from across Surrey. Medals for one team and great experience for both...
The A team made it through to the semi final where they lost to Surbiton 'A' 1:0 (the only goal they conceded all afternoon - nightmares of Barcelona coming back).
However, they did beat Surbiton 'B' 2:0 to win bronze. Surbiton went on to beat Wimbledon in the final. So close.
The B team had a difficult pool but did their best and came close to getting to a play-off.
Game 1 v Epsom - result 0-0
On a very chilly morning the girls started briskly with a hard fought game against Epsom. Despite chances for both teams with Georgia having the best for GHC both goalkeepers made good saves and this game ended nil all.
Game 2 v Woking - result 0-0
GHC dominated this game without being able to finish off some good approach play in particular by Eleanor. Lucy once again made a couple of good saves to keep another clean sheet.
Game 3 v Surbiton - result 0-5
This was a tougher game for the girls as they went behind early and were under pressure almost throughout the game. A mixture of some good approach play by Surbiton and some unfortuitous deflections saw the girls concede 5 by the end but the girls battled well to the end against a strong team
Overall all of the girls played their hearts out and were only one win away from moving onto the next round. They should all be commended for their efforts. Well done girls!
