Three Guildford teams took on four Sevenoaks teams at home on Sunday. Loads of goals and lots of fun...
Overall a good performance for Guildford Fire against 4 Sevenoaks teams.
We managed to pass the ball well in the first game against the Sevenoaks A team and win a closely contested game 2-0. Lots of running from the whole squad and Hannah, Martha, Eliza and Rosie all passing well in midfield. Isla and Holly strong at the back plus Martha M and Ella competed well and played in a few positions. Isla and Holly were a new combination in defence and worked well together. We were without a goalkeeper all day but the girls covered the defence well and hardly any shots on target and we conceded no goals.
In the 2nd game we stepped up the attack and won by 5 goals and Isla acted as a strong presence up front finishing well with plenty of passes coming from Hannah, Rosie, Eliza and Martha (R & M).
The last 2 games against the C & D team saw us win by many goals and Saskia kindly helped coach the girls.
It was a good effort on the day by the whole squad and we now need to focus on a few key areas before the Surrey Cup in March. One example is ensuring the forwards stay high up the pitch and the midfield link early in the phase of play.
Massive thanks to Katie for getting these games arranged and getting so many girls playing hockey which is the absolute key to their development!!

We were unfortunately down a couple of players and low on defence so considering this I am pleased with our results.
Storm v Sevenoaks B: 5-0 win (Evie 3, Caitlyn 2)
Against the Sevenoaks B team the girls worked well but were just warming up - took them a bit to get into their groove. Once they did, they were using the wings and their passes were good. There was no calling and this set them back a bit when they couldn't get their eyes up to see. We were the stronger team, but needed to get high on the rebounds.
Storm v Sevenoaks C: 15- 0 (Evie 3, Caitlyn 4, Amelie 3, Katie 3)
Against the Sevenoaks C team. This a very one-sided game. As we had such a skill advantage we swept around them and just kept popping goals in. 5 or 6 goals were from their pushbacks, which we just intercepted and ran. We changed everyone out of position and Katie and Amelie worked beautifully together as forwards.
Storm v Sevenoaks A: 0-1 loss
The final match against their A team was an unfortunate loss. By this stage the girls were gelling, using the wings very well and calling. So many times the girls got the ball up to the goal but ended up rolling it straight into the defenders sticks. We had some really beautiful long passes up the wings and slaps into goal just unfortunate we could not convert. We lost the game 0-1.
What a great performance from the Hurricanes this morning. With a slightly depleted team and no subs the girls really had to work hard but they did just that and won their 1st and last matches and drew their 2nd game.
Our first game was against the C team, which we won 3 - 0. The girls did exactly what they were asked to do. They played the ball wide down their wings. The wings successfully drove the ball down towards the baseline before crossing into the D. Our weakness lay in striking the ball hard enough or accurately enough to get it into goal. Three times we succeeded but the score line could have been far greater if we were both stronger and more aggressive when it came to goal shooting.
Our second game was against the A team which we drew 0 - 0. It was a very even game with our defence having to work hard and our forwards having plenty of opportunities at goal. Unfortunately, luck was not on our side. Good performance particularly from Martha, Tallulah and Tilly who kept the opposition out of the goal and Evie to continuous drove the ball down the wing.
Our final game was against the B-side and with the girls all in completely different positions a little time was taken to get used to the change in layout. Once all settled though the team performance was great. We were awarded a couple of short corners and on the 3rd time it was a text book operation with Evie hitting to Tallulah and Tallulah firing the ball straight into the goal. There was plenty of work for our defence with Susannah putting in some good saves as our kicking back and Martha and Evie working hard clearing the ball up the wings. Well done girls.
Team; Evie, Emily, Molly, Tilly, Martha, Susannah and Tallulah.
