GU10s v Old Cranleighans

 4th Feb 2018

20180204-GU10LightningThree Under 10 Girls teams hosted Old Cranleighans for some excellent match play...

Storm

It may have been freezing but the sun was shining which made all the difference!! Playing on ½ pitches the Guildford Storm girls' spirits were high which resulted in a very good performance. They beat the OC B team 2-0, they drew with the OC A team 0-0 and they won against the OC C team 9-0.

In the first game the defense were quick at taking 16 yards and hits in themselves, which they in term passed out to the wings resulting in good drives down towards goal. Activity in the goal was on target and when they worked as a team and found space the end result was a goal.

In the second game the girls played a very similar game but against a stronger side they spent a great deal more time defending than attacking. Amelie and Olivia played in defense and cleared the ball beautifully up the right wing. Ella and Gemma shared the role of CM and did a fantastic job at

both defending and attacking. There were some excellent drives down the wings by Imogen and Martha, which did not result in goals because the team failed to work together once they arrived at the D and completely forgot about positioning for the rebound.

The final game was a bit of a goal onslaught. Annabelle and Caitlyn repeatedly firing the ball into goal after receiving some lovely passes from Ella, Gemma, Martha, Imogen and Amelie. Anouk had her first appearance as goalkeeper for the Storm team and didn't get many touches of the ball but when the ball headed in her direction she dealt with it calmly and conceded no goals so well done.

Hurricanes

The Guildford Hurricanes surprised the opponent Old Cranleigh and impressed their parents by some incredible hockey last Sunday. Tallulah and Martha formed a very solid defence, not only keeping the balls away from our goal, but also helping in building up the attack with very hard and accurate passing.

On the midfield and in the forward line the girls showed off their skills and created many beautiful combinations. A feast for the eye, and leaving this coach with nothing left to say. Well done girls!

Lightning

Guildford Lightning did really well today and all the Friday training is starting to pay off. Some lovely skills were shown. The defence was solid with Hatty, Flora, Grace F and Alex making sure the ball wasn’t getting to close to our D.

In the mid Eve, Charlotte, Cammie and Millie were doing a fantastic job with some lovely passes using the wings. Emilia and Grace were strong up front making the most of every situation, using the wings and making the opposition work hard in defence.

The girls were organised and in control. And put on a great performance on a sunny morning. They won their first match 1-0, lost their second game 0-1 (just a last-minute goal!) and were held to a 0-0 draw by our strongest opposition - Well done girls!

Team; Grace, Cammie, Millie, Charlotte, Flora, Emilia, Grace, Eve, Hatty and Alexandra

Coach; Mercedes
