In a game of many goals GHC managed to hit their stride nice and early with a goal from Charlotte somewhat in contrast to their traditional slow starts. This gave the girls confidence and a second followed shortly by Emily after some good interlinking play and the referee playing a good advantage.
The game became stretched out as there was a desire to get forward but South Berkshire started to get into the game and push our defence which then allowed GHC to hit them on the counter attack with Georgia finishing emphatically after being set up by Camilla.
More pressure from South Berkshire lead to a great save from Evelyn close to the line with it looking like Hannah had been beaten and the ensuing counter attack saw Emily add to her tally. South Berkshire got on the scoreboard with a firm finish from a short corner but GHC continued with a strong counter attacking game with good passing around the D leading to another for Emily who then followed up with another before half time after some neat skill by Sasha released her to shoot. 6-1 at half time.
The second half started very similarly to the first with GHC back and scoring after a scramble in the D with Emily getting the decisive touch. And the strong play from GHC continued with Georgia doubling her tally after a strong run and cross by Tabby.
But it was far from plain sailing with the defence having to get stuck in as a couple of South Berkshire players began to show their quality and the stretched nature of the game began to tell. South Berkshire took advantage of a couple of loose passes by GHC from a short corner and then in open play to bag the next two goals before Sasha got on the scoresheet from a short corner.
Another short corner saw Charlotte return to the scorers after following up the initial shot and getting her second. Further loose passing from the back by GHC saw South Berkshire score another very well taken goal but GHC has the last word as Charlotte got her hat-trick after strong play by Sasha and Georgia. Final score 11-4.
This was a game of goals with Charlotte being awarded player of the match for GHC but GHC played some flowing hockey today from back to front with the defence and goal keeper more than playing their part with good tackling and saves before setting the midfield and attack away on their counter attacks.
This was a game played in sunshine and with the first signs of spring. Encouraging signs both on and off the hockey field. Well done girls!
