The Under 10 Girls had four teams playing today including Hurricanes and Lightning v Woking...
GHC Hurricanes were excellent from start to finish last Sunday, scoring 17 goals in three matches, and not conceding a single one. The girls set up with three across the back, in the absence of a goalkeeper, and soon worked out that this could also be an attacking role against the Woking sides. Rosie encouraged Martha and Molly to stay wide and pass the ball around the back, making space up the wings for the midfield and forwards to run into.
It was really pleasing to see the girls looking up before passing, particularly in the centre of the pitch. They also scored a few goals by passing the ball across the D rather than trying to score from a narrow angle. The scores were as follows: against Woking C 5–0, Woking D 8-0, Guildford D 4-0. This last game was much tougher, and the girls need to remember that passing the ball still works better than dribbling with it, even against a more determined opposition.
Team: Ruby, Katie, Charlotte, Evie, Caitlin, Rosie, Tilly, Molly, Susannah and Martha
GHC Lightening showed off with some amazing hockey against Woking C and Woking D. Defenders Hatty, Alexandra and Grace F. never gave the opponents chance to shoot on goal and when they intercepted the ball they would look up and calmly pass it wide. Tallulah, Bibi and Cammie dominated on the midfield and impressed by their hard and accurate passing. Finally, Grace C. and Emilia ran their socks off up front and scored some beautiful goals. We won both games against Woking with 4-0 and 2-0. Excellent play girls!
Then we were up against Guildford C. Now this was a different game and it was all hands on deck to keep them away from our goal. Still, the girls didn't let their heads down and fought like lions to resist the continuous attacks from the excellent Guildford C team. Well done to both Guildford teams, thanks to the umpires and thanks for the smooth organization by Katie as always.
