Guildford girls U12s entered a team of die hard hockey players for their last tournament before the Christmas break. The girls finished the first half of the season well with a 3rd placed finish in the Plate competition at Surbiton's Tony Smith U13 tournament.
The team came out a little cold (it was -2 on the thermometre when the first whistle went!), but gathered pace as the morning progressed. Emily H had some strong runs and nice finishes and Darcy scored two absolute rockets from penalty corners. Camilla ruled the right hand side of the pitch all morning and scored one of the goals of the day after dribbling from the half way line and slotting the ball in the bottom corner. Eleanor showed why she has become one of the most consistent players with some well-timed tackles and quick free hits and Lauren made some nice interceptions and strong block tackles. Jess distributed the ball well and became more aggressive as the morning wore on-even giving a couple of elbows back! Juliet seemingly played everywhere and created nice pockets of space.
Special mention must go to our star goalkeeper of the day, Tabitha B, our U11 goalie who stepped in at the last moment to cover an injury, with some fantastic stops and even better slides. Thank you to all the parents for your support, warm drinks and cheering throughout the morning. Happy Christmas and hope everyone had a great New Year.
