GU10s Fire and Storm at Surbiton

 3rd Dec 2017

20171203-GU14StormTwo Under 10 Girls teams competed with teams at Surbiton today...

It was a bit of a slow start for Guildford Storm, our first match was late starting so it seemed to be over before we even got going.  No goals were scored by either team. As a result we were not ready for our second match and our opposition got the better of us by scoring two goals very quickly.  The girls then woke up and started to play some good hockey, they passed the ball fast and wide and thought about their positioning.  Work does still need to be done on positioning in the goal but I was pleased to see some great team work results in 2 lovely goals in our third match.  By our 4th match there was no stopping the girls as they scored another 2 goals.  Unfortunately we got a bit excited and left our goal unmanned which gave Surbiton the chance to get one back!! End result was 2:1.

Team Fire all worked really hard against good teams at Surbiton on Sunday.

In 5 games they remained unbeaten, scored 12 goals and didn’t concede.

Game 1 against Surbiton Wolves saw us win 1-0 after most of the possession and some good passing.

Game 2  saw us finish better and get 3 goals with lots of good wide passing at the back from Rosie/Holly and Martha M.  Lots of runs down the flanks from Martha Re and Martha Ro and Hannah held the ball well on the left.  Poppy was a good target up front and helped herself to a bundle of goals in the day.  Eliza hussled in midfield and we rotated the girls through different positions.

Game 3 saw an ever expansive game and we managed to score 5/6 goals with Martha, Eliza and Poppy with a hattrick.

Game 4 was a tight game that we drew but we had a bundle of chances and a lot of working for each other.  Grace was also tested and made a great save to keep her clean sheet.

Final game was against Guildford and was a closely matched affair but with Poppy scoring a brace we won 2-0.

Well organised day and good standard of opposition. Thanks to all the coaches and girls for a great effort and a lot of enthusiasm!
