The Under 18 Boys faced Epsom in Round 2 of the England Hockey Cup Tier 1 Competition.
It was off to a quick start with a penalty corner awarded in the first minute. The boys executed well and the goal went in off of an opposition player - not the preferred way to score a goal, but we were on the score sheet.
The team started to put together some good passing and had several chances, but the Epsom goalkeeper was on his game and it wasn't until 2 minutes to the half time break that Charlie got one past him for 2-0.
GHC came out of the half time talk with a plan and within in a minute of the re-start we saw one of the best collective goals we may see all season with Raph tackling from inside the midline, sending to Elliot who forwarded to Max who passed inside the D to Ed who smashed in. 3-0 up on a terrific team effort - those not involved in handling the ball were marking their men effectively.
Freddy slotted 2 more in for a hatrick, Ben C got on the score sheet as did Nick for 7-0. But this was only in and around the Epsom keeper having saved probably at least a dozen.
The Epsom captain then got a bee in his bonnet and drifted and waltzed through a slightly less attentive defence with a concerted individual effort for a final score of 7-1.
Credit to Epsom who, despite having got down in the second half, never gave up. And of course to the lad in goal who made it very tricky for us all they way through the match.
Team: Alex, Tom W, Marco, Raph, Tom E, Ollie S, Max, Freddy, Tom F, Ben C, Ollie J, Charlie, Elliot, Nick, Ed J
