 The team turned up on Sunday at Charterhouse very early Sunday morning and were super motivated to play well against a decent Surbiton team in the Mercian league. A good test of how far the squad has come since the start of the season.
After a great start with masses of possession and excellent passing the team started to get chances and a the Surbiton goalie was fairly busy. The bench was rotated regularly and the boys worked super hard for each other to close down Surbiton with a high press in defence and then a quick transfer of the ball to maximise the width in attack.
Toby and Jake solid at the back with Will S and Ollie down each flank. Harry acted as the pivot from centre half and Marc at right link and Adam at left link working super hard to close the opposition down and then get the ball forward to the front three. Hobie covered a lot of ground and was always a threat and Will T and Charlie both did well holding the ball and attacking the Surbiton goal. Johnny, Lucas, Will F, James all played in a variety of positions and the whole squad seemed comfortable on the ball.
Towards the middle of the 1st half James P did well to react first to a lifted ball and managed to bundle the ball in the goal to make it a deserved 1-0.
The second half saw us dominate the possession and keep up the high tempo. Harry latched on a pass from Marc P and rounded the goalie to calmly slot home to make it 2 nil and then Connor made a fabulous double save to keep the defence in tact. Surbiton kept going with a young team and always threatened on the break but the whole team worked back super hard to stop any break away
Final goal came from a whole series of lovely passes through the team which ended up with Hobie feeding Marc the ball and he finished inside the left post to make it 3-0.
Overall a very good effort from the whole team and a professional approach on and off the pitch. Its key now for this group of players to maintain high standards of behaviour and to keep coming to training and work hard as a group. Onwards and upwards!!!
No doubt Surbiton will come back stronger later in the season and we cant wait to test ourselves again.
