GondoliersWary of Fake News

 2nd Nov 2017

20171015-GondolliersTeamIn this era of fake news and sex pest scandals it's good to report on something timeless and stable such as a Gondoliers hockey match...

There were the regular features of early injuries, excessive praise for the umpires and Windsor Lewis not scoring, but also some unexpected events, such as our designated left wing being spotted, well, on the left wing in the second half. The end of the series "Richard Gordon's Kitchen Nightmares" saw the long awaited return (once he had found his shoes and the pitch) of our intrepid keeper, who distinguished himself with a series of sprawling saves.

An early setback saw Windsor take a 1-0 lead; Mullins then rattled the post on almost our first short but it was left to Howells to level the scores before retiring with a hamstring injury. Gould was released from the bench and the Gondos, eventually eschewing the long ball into the D, passed short and played some of the best hockey seen this season, with the energetic and youthful Perry and the elusive Rosoman prominent. A dominant second half performance saw a clean sheet for the Gondos and further goals from Sturgess, Mullins and HP, but perhaps the highlight was a sideline flick from a nameless Welsh defender that actually went out over the same sideline fence into the car park. There was no repeat of last years bloodshed, and it was a pleasure to repair to an honest to God hostelry with the Windsor team for some honest to God bitter and some honest to God carbohydrates.

To summarise the pub banter #######################################[this part of match report censored at Nigel's request in case he becomes Prime Minister (or Defence Minister).

Finally, for any of you following the Twitter sites @windsorlewisscoresgoals or @aleccanrememberhwathappenedonsaturday, beware of Fake News!
