GU10s Learn a lot from Difficult Matches

 3rd Nov 2017

2017-11-03-GU10On Sunday the U10s had a hard test against three of the better teams in Surrey...

Old Cranleighans keep growing as a junior age group and now have large numbers of juniors.  Wayfarers did very well last year at the u10s and managed to lose to Surbiton in the semi finals.  Finally, Wimbledon keep growing as a junior section on the back of the success of the premier league men and women.

v Old Cranleighans (3-0 win)

The first game was against Old Cranleighans and saw the team start brightly.  We dominated and passed the ball well from the back from Rosie and Holly.    Martha Ro and Martha Re worked hard down the flanks and Eliza tried to act as the pivot at centre half.  Hannah and Annabel worked well together up front and held up the ball well.  Gemma and Ella also worked hard when they came on in a variety of positions.

v Wayfarers (1-0 win)

Second game was against Wayfarers and we managed to keep the ball on a fairly cluttered pitch.  WE played 8 outfield players to get all the girls a game but this closed a lot of theusual space they are used to.  We worked hard but stopped passing the ball wide and made it quite hard work but a well taken short corner meant we won 1-0.  Plenty we can improve on but a great effort to win against a decent team.

v Wimbledon (0-0)

Final game was against a strong Wimbledon sign who threatened our goal a few times and Grace made a great point blank save to keep us in the game.  WE still struggled a bit to play our wide game but the girls worked hard against a strong team to keep a clean sheet.  We had more chances but couldn’t quite get the shots away.  Overall a good day and all the GHC u10 teams had some great results which shows how competitive the age group is.  Also amazing to be the biggest age group in the club and have a lot of new players wanting to join.  Onward and upwards to prepare for the next games and to focus on passing the ball wide and to play a high tempo game passed on solid basics and passing the ball.

As ever thanks to all the coaches in the age group and parents for their support.  See you at training soon.
