Gondoliers v Epsom

 28th Oct 2017

20171015-GondolliersTeamWith some unanswered questions circulating through their minds, the Gondoliers took to the pitch with a bare 11 players.

Would the presence of a proper goalkeeper in Josh enable a back line of only 3 to cope? Would Geoff's rejuventated knees last the pace? Would newcomer Matt be able to blend his energy and enthusiasm seamlessly into the side?

The answer of course was yes, so why was it still stalemate at half time?

Cut out the predictable ball into the "D", play the ball earlier and use the middle of the park to create space for the front runners (yes that term includes you Tom) said guru Toby.

And so we did, creating a much better rhythm to our game and even though Epsom pulled one goal back after we had gone two ahead, we capitalised on their loss of shape and scored two more. A generally even-tempered, well umpired game with only one minor indiscretion.

Well done to Josh for some timely saves and to John for picking one off the line that evaded Josh; to the midfield who worked tirelessly in both attack and defence and to the front line for scoring some excellent goals and improving our goal difference.
