The Under 18 Boys got their EH Cup campaign underway with a home match v Teddington. The Under 18 competition is knock-out like the EH Adult competitions. A team is guaranteed two matches - if Round 1 of Tier 1 (Cup) is a loss, the team goes into Tier 2 (the Plate). So, our first game...
Started under pressure as Teddington had a shot on goal in the first minute. Alex made a strong to keep us from going under too much pressure early on. We then had an attempt on Teddington's goal only for them to come back with a wide shot our end.
And so it was while the teams found their feet. Guildford slowly had the better of the passing and teamwork and it seemed a matter of time before we would score. In our first PC after 15 minutes of play, Charlie got hold and made it 1-0. Three minutes later we were awarded another PC and it was Charlie again for 2-0.
Another PC came and went as did a defensive one. Charlie got hold of the fourth one with a shot saved by a defender body part and Isaac neatly netted the p-flick for 3-0 going into the half-time break.
Another series of PC's to start the second half all went without scores. Teddington's centre half was keeping our mids very busy and their captain was also doing much to keep us awake in mid and defence and he did finally get through halfway through the half with a clean shot for 3-1.
The otherwise strong defensive line of Raph, Fraser, Ollie and Marco with Tom coming in and out effectively fed the midfield with some great balls and cleared when they needed to.
Josh, Isaac, Freddy and Ben worked tirelessly to neutralise Teddington's best player who was very skillful, smooth and quick and his ability to link with his teammates.
Charlie, Elliot, Max and Nick ran and ran and had many, many good attacks and attempts. After three goals resulting from PCs in the first half, Max, Nick and Elliot all got field goals to finish the match 6-1.
We stay in the Cup for at least one more match. Draw coming soon...
